Hello mundo!

This dispatch comes to you from Austin, where we just landed this morning for the beginning of twelve hectic Tejas days! We’re fresh from a couple days’ off in Tucson, where we recovered from the Pacific Northwest. OSU was great, as was doing a DJ/VJ set at a basement punk show in Portland, and even pulled off an insane 24hr run up to Vancouver, BC, despite Logan forgetting his passport. (Big shout out to the Canadian border guards!) Back in Tucson we played the National Association for Latino Arts and Culture regional arts conference, which turned out even better than expected, we made a lot of new friends that we’re eager to stay in touch with. (¡Saludos to DJ Lengua!) Then there was a DJ/VJ set with our sister group Flam Chen, and it looks like there will be another big Verbobala / Flam Chen show in Tucson in September.

On the Moisés front, things have gone from bad to worse. After the Tucson Poetry Festival had come and gone, we asked the Festival to withdraw their artist work visa application. Moi, in desperation, flew to Mérida, Yucatán, where there is another US Embassy with a much lighter workload that that of the Embassy in Mexico City. He applied for a tourist visa and was able to get an interview in a matter of days. At the interview his tourist visa was denied, and they refused to tell him why. Was it a conflict with the previous visa application? Prior history? Completely arbitrary? There’s no way to know. In frustration, Moi ran off into the Guatemalan jungle for a few weeks to try to forget the whole thing.

It looks like Adam and I will round out the US tour, with Moi continuing to record poems for every show. We’ll continue to make him present... the digital illegal immigrant. We’re unsure of what to do in the future... hopefully the climate will improve after the November elections!
